Benin Parliament: Inaugural session of the 10th legislature set for February 8.

The 109 deputies elected in the legislative elections of January 11, 2026 are summoned to the Governor’s Palace in Porto-Novo on Sunday, February 8, 2026 for the inaugural session of the 10th legislature of the National Assembly.

In accordance with the official communiqué issued on Thursday, two main items are on the agenda for this first parliamentary plenary.

The first item concerns the formal installation of the deputies, marking the entry into office of the new class of elected representatives and the institutional transition after the 9th legislature.

The second item concerns the election of the President of the National Assembly, as well as the other members of the Bureau of the 10th legislature, namely the two vice-presidents, the two quaestors and the two parliamentary secretaries.

This step marks the launch of parliamentary work for the next five years, in a political context marked by a homogeneous majority formed by the two main parties that won all the seats in the election.

The convocation of the eldest member, Antoine N’dah N’dah, to preside over this first session while awaiting the election of the final bureau reflects a well-established institutional practice in Benin.
