Benin: Gernot Rohr’s squad list to challenge Burkina Faso and Messi’s Argentina

As the upcoming international deadlines approach, Gernot Rohr has announced his squad for the period of September-October 2026. The Franco-German coach has selected 26 players to form the group of the Cheetahs. In goal, Marcel Dandjinou, Saturnin Allagbé, and Serge Obassa have been called up. The coach thus retains several options for the goalkeeper position, with profiles accustomed to international gatherings.

The defensive sector consists of nine players. Amadou Amiro, Charlemagne Azongnitodé, Iréné Glélé, Rachid Moumini, Liam Omore, Tamimou Ouorou, Yohan Roche, Mohamed Tijani, and their partners will be responsible for forming the Beninese defensive line. In midfield, Rohr places his trust in Mattéo Ahlinvi, Samadou Attidjikou, Sessi D’Almeida, Dodo Dokou, Imourane Hassane, and Junior Olaitan. This is a sector where experience and youth coexist, with several players already regularly used with the Cheetahs.

The offensive lineup relies on eight players. Rodolfo Aloko, Jodel Dossou, Sahid Ngobi, Joseph Oloko, Junior Olougbadé, Olatoundji Tessilimi, Aiyegun Tosin, and Yamirou Ouorou are included in the group. As a reminder, Benin will face Burkina Faso and Mauritania on September 25 and 29, as part of the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. The Squirrels will then travel to Buenos Aires to challenge Lionel Messi’s Argentina in a friendly match scheduled for October 6, 2026.
