Atlético: Diego Simeone hails Lookman despite defeat to Real
Having scored against Real Madrid, Ademola Lookman has made his mark, as Atlético Madrid were beaten 3-2. In the mixed zone, his coach Diego Simeone praised his progression, while also pointing out areas for improvement.

Despite the defeat in the Madrid derby, Diego Simeone did not fail to praise Ademola Lookman’s performance. The Super Eagles forward shone in Atlético Madrid’s 3-2 loss to Real Madrid on Sunday in La Liga. In an intense derby, it was the Merengues who had the last word, notably aided by a brace from Vinícius Júnior. Yet it was indeed the Colchoneros who had opened the scoring thanks to Ademola Lookman, who found the net in the 33rd minute, before conceding the reply.
In a press conference, Diego Simeone was lavish in praise of the Nigerian international, highlighting his commitment and progress: “Lookman is progressing, he works very hard. The problem is that he plays in different attacking positions, and we need him to keep doing so.” The Argentine coach also stressed an area for improvement, notably in defensive duties: “We also help him progress defensively so that he can strengthen our team’s defense. He is already capable of it because he is a young player with a big heart and a strong desire to learn and improve.”
Substituted on the hour in a triple substitution that included Antoine Griezmann, the former Atalanta player nevertheless continues to impress in his new colors. Simeone also concluded: “It’s fantastic, and I hope he continues to deliver important moments like today.” With nine decisive contributions (five goals, four assists) in fourteen matches across all competitions, Ademola Lookman is gradually establishing himself as a key piece of Atlético Madrid’s setup.
