Athletics: Taïrou and Ekagnon crowned champions of Benin at 2.00 m

The results, published after the event at the Stade omnisports Goho, see Taïrou, representing Ouémé-Plateau, and Ekagnon from Atlantique-Littoral, standing atop the national podium. Midingbédo also competed for Ouémé-Plateau.

In the U20/Seniors women’s category, Georgette Ibitokou won the high jump with a height of 1.57 m. In the U16/U18 girls’ categories, Fidélia Houého triumphed at 1.56 m, followed by Ida Zinsou, who cleared 1.54 m, and Bani Baké, who finished third with a height of 1.42 m.

The U16/U18 boys’ competition was won by Nigerian Emmanuel Ehuwa with a jump of 1.90 m. Beninese athlete Benjamin Ahouélété took second place at 1.68 m, ahead of Togolese Michaël Dougba, who finished third with a height of 1.64 m.

The 66th National Championships brought together the six regional leagues of Benin, along with athletes from Nigeria, Togo, and Burkina Faso. The performances from the 2026 edition contribute to the World Athletics rankings.

The same competition also featured the Benin women’s 5,000 m record set by Colette Ayadé in 16’54”46, marking an improvement over the previous record of 16’56”.
