According to TeamTalk, Manchester United has no intention of re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo for a third spell at Old Trafford. Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future at Al-Nassr, the Saudi club where he has been playing since December 2022, the five-time Ballon d’Or will not return to his formative club. At 40, Ronaldo has enjoyed an exceptional spell at Al-Awwal Park, scoring more than 100 goals in all competitions combined — the fourth time in his career that he has reached that milestone after Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus.
Although he signed last year a contract intended to keep him at the Knights of Najd until the summer of 2027, the Portuguese international is considering leaving the club due to financial difficulties. With an annual salary estimated at more than $225 million before bonuses and other benefits, Ronaldo remains one of the highest-paid athletes in the world. However, Al-Nassr’s financial prudence contrasts with the bold investments of their rivals also owned by the Saudi sovereign wealth fund PIF.
TeamTalk notes that the Old Trafford leadership does not plan spectacular reunions with Ronaldo, more than three years after a departure marked by tensions and public criticisms by the player of the club during an explosive interview with journalist Piers Morgan. Frustrated by the perceived lack of financial support from the PIF, which could limit Al-Nassr’s competitiveness on the pitch, Cristiano Ronaldo could consider a new club this summer. But Old Trafford does not seem to be on the agenda.
In seven and a half seasons split over two separate spells at Manchester United, Ronaldo won three Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League title, as well as several domestic and continental trophies, leaving a lasting mark on the club’s history.
