After the Macklemore controversy, Pink clarifies her position on Gaza

In a lengthy message posted on Instagram, the American singer acknowledged that the message shared a few days earlier did not fully reflect her own words. She expressed a desire to speak out directly following the reactions to that post.

The controversy began after Ed Sheeran’s concerts on September 4 and 5 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Macklemore, who opened for Sheeran, shouted “Free Palestine” and performed his activist song “Hind’s Hall” against images of Gaza. An American organization fighting against anti-Semitism subsequently called for his removal from the tour, a request that Pink supported.

The singer now asserts that she does not seek to silence the rapper and is not calling for his dismissal or for ticket refunds. She clarifies that her concern was about the feelings of some Jewish audience members and how the message was presented.

Pink states that she does not speak on behalf of Israel or any government. She labels Hamas as a terrorist organization while asserting that Palestinians have the right to a future that respects their humanity and aspirations. She also emphasizes the protection of civilians and the refusal to celebrate the deaths of children, regardless of their side.

Macklemore maintained his position in a post shared after the concerts. The rapper stated that his criticism was aimed at Israeli policy, not Jewish individuals, framing his intervention as a call for equality and dignity for all.
