AFCON 2027: Uganda waives visas to attract supporters and tourists
As the Africa Cup of Nations 2027 approaches, Uganda is betting on openness by announcing visa-free entry for foreign visitors, with the aim of attracting supporters and tourists in large numbers.

It’s a strong signal to the continent. In view of the Africa Cup of Nations 2027, Uganda has decided to waive visa fees for all international visitors. A measure that fits into a broader strategy aimed at easing access to the territory and ensuring a record turnout during the competition. By placing accessibility at the heart of its approach, the East African country intends to create a welcoming environment for supporters coming from across the continent and beyond. An initiative that goes beyond the sporting realm, also fitting into a broader push to boost tourism.
Behind this decision, the economic stake is also significant. By attracting a large audience, Uganda hopes to generate meaningful spillovers for its infrastructure, its services, and the broader economy. CAN 2027 thus represents a unique opportunity for the country to showcase its assets, its natural parks, and its cultural richness, while strengthening its image on the African stage.
