Adjarra: a couple arrested in a presumed baby kidnapping case
A judicial inquiry has been opened in Adjarra, in the Ouémé department, following the arrest of a 43-year-old English teacher and his partner, a 37-year-old seamstress. The couple is suspected of being involved in a case of infant abduction.

The case came to light when the woman presented herself at the Adjarra 1 health center to have a newborn vaccinated. During the consultation, the medical staff quickly noticed several glaring inconsistencies. Health agents noted, in particular, that the woman did not exhibit any of the characteristic physical signs of a recent childbirth.
When questioned about the origin of the child, the partner claimed to have given birth in a clinic located in Lagos, Nigeria. However, she was unable to provide any medical records, birth certificate, or administrative document to support her statements.
Given these suspicious elements, the medical center officials immediately alerted the republican police, who proceeded to arrest the two partners.
Police investigations continue
The suspects are currently being interrogated by law enforcement to shed light on the exact circumstances under which they came into possession of the baby. Investigators are busy verifying the couple’s statements and identifying the true parents of the infant.
At this stage of the proceedings, the judicial authorities have not reached any official conclusions, and both suspects remain presumed innocent pending the investigation results.
