The Nigerian striker Omorinsola Babajide strongly criticized the decision by the Confederation of African Football to postpone the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations to Morocco. The Super Falcons’ top scorer called the situation “shameful” as the teams were already in full preparation.
The Super Falcons forward, Omorinsola Babajide, did not hide her frustration after the announcement of the postponement of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. The decision was formalized on Thursday by the Confederation of African Football, which moved the competition originally scheduled for March 17 in Morocco to July 2026.
The governing body of African football cited “unforeseen circumstances” to justify this calendar change. The announcement comes as the majority of the sixteen qualified teams had already begun their preparations, taking advantage of the recent international window to play several friendly matches.
This decision drew strong reactions from the players. Now playing for AS Roma, the former Liverpool FC player did not mince words on social media. “It’s shameful,” she wrote on X, before adding: “It’s even become embarrassing.” A hard blow for the teams involved, forced to rethink their training schedule just a few days before the originally planned kickoff.
