Yayi Boni: Evacuated to Germany, the former president is continuing his recovery in Berlin following an operation.
The former President of Benin, Boni Yayi, is currently in Berlin, Germany, for medical reasons, after being evacuated there on August 30th.

In a statement released by his family on September 4, 2026, it was indicated that the former head of state was suffering from a herniated disc. He underwent surgery lasting approximately seven hours and is now continuing his recovery in Germany.
The family of the former president expressed their gratitude to the current president, Romuald Wadagni, for his prompt agreement, which facilitated this medical evacuation.
The text further specifies that this operation was conducted in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 2009-18 of July 15, 2009, concerning pensions and other benefits for former Presidents of the Republic of Benin.
