The captain of Argentina, Lionel Messi, opened up about a more intimate facet of his personality. In an interview with Luzu TV, the Inter Miami forward admitted to having difficulty managing certain mood swings, acknowledging that he tends to isolate himself when he goes through more challenging periods mentally.

“What I like least about myself is that when I am in a certain state of mind, I cut myself off from the world and I have a lot of trouble getting out of it,” explained the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner. “The slightest triviality, sometimes even something simple, can change my mood. I withdraw into myself and I have trouble reversing the trend,” he added.

Messi also revealed the existence of precious support within his family circle. According to him, his son Mateo plays a decisive role in helping him overcome these moments. “The person who can quickly pull me out of this state is my son Mateo. He’s the only one who can do it,” he confessed with emotion. At 38, Lionel Messi remains a cornerstone of the Argentine squad and should feature in the Albiceleste group for the next FIFA World Cup.
