United States: Akon’s wife files for divorce after 29 years of marriage

Tomeka Thiam, the wife of Senegalese-American singer Akon, has officially filed for divorce, a few days before what would have marked their 29th wedding anniversary.

According to documents filed on Thursday, September 11, 2025, in a Fulton County, Georgia, court, Tomeka is seeking dissolution of the marriage, joint legal custody of their 17-year-old daughter, and alimony. She also asks the court to dismiss the petitions filed by Akon.

The couple married in September 1996. Tomeka cites ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the reason for her petition, bringing to an end nearly three decades of life together.
