Following the terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of over 50 Beninese soldiers, former President Boni Yayi has called for unity and prayer.
The recent surge in terrorist attacks in Benin has alarmed former President Dr. Thomas Boni Yayi. In a message shared on his social media accounts this Friday, April 25, 2025, the former head of state reacted to the deadly events.
In his message, Boni Yayi called upon divine protection for the people of Benin and the broader West African region. “Lord of Hosts, Father in Heaven, save our nation from barbarism and comfort the grieving families,” he wrote.
This call to prayer comes amid a context of repeated attacks on Benin’s military positions, particularly along the border with Burkina Faso, which have resulted in the deaths of dozens of soldiers.
“Acting alone will not be enough to defeat these godless criminals,” he warned. The former president, who also once chaired the African Union, urged African leaders to pursue joint strategies to combat the terrorist threat.
“May God bless and strengthen our common homeland, Benin, and our sub-region,” he prayed.
