Tanzania: Miguel Gamondi unveils an XXL preliminary squad for AFCON 2025
Tanzania coach Miguel Gamondi has named 53 players to begin preparations for AFCON 2025, with a strong presence from the domestic league and several key foreign-based players, ahead of a first showdown against Nigeria.

Tanzania coach Miguel Gamondi published an extended preliminary list of 53 players for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, reports Daily Post. A massive call-up that marks the start of the Taifa Stars’ preparations for a tournament where the competition promises to be particularly stiff.
Not surprisingly, this first selection leans heavily on the strengths of the domestic championship. The Tanzanian heavyweights — Young Africans, Simba SC, Azam FC and Singida Black Stars — provide the majority of the players chosen.
Gamondi also called up several players plying their trade abroad, among them Sabri Kondo (BK Häcken, Sweden), Novatus Miroshi (Göztepe, Turkey) and Kelvin John (Aalborg BK, Denmark), three regulars in recent camps. This list will have to be trimmed in the coming weeks to meet the deadline set by CAF for final squads.
Placed in Group C, the Taifa Stars will meet Nigeria, Tunisia and neighboring Uganda. Their campaign gets underway on 23 December, against the Super Eagles.
