Shakira and Maluma announce “Agua,” their first collaboration in eight years

The announcement was made through a joint post on social media, following several hours of teasing by Maluma. The singer initially shared a backlit image revealing two silhouettes before confirming that Shakira was indeed his partner on this new song.

The promotional visual features both artists dressed in white, set against a warm-toned backdrop. The date of September 17 is prominently displayed on the announcement, marking their first collaborative song since “Clandestino,” which was released in 2018.

“Agua” will be their fourth musical collaboration. Shakira and Maluma first worked together on “Chantaje” in 2016, followed by “Trap” in 2017 and then “Clandestino” the following year. According to Los40, “Chantaje” notably held the top spot on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart for eleven non-consecutive weeks.

Before officially revealing Shakira’s name, Maluma also shared short snippets of the track on TikTok. Consequence notes that these initial previews suggest a merengue-inspired sound, although the artists have yet to officially detail the production or the full content of the song.

This announcement comes at a busy time for both singers. Shakira is set to resume her “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” tour on September 18 with a series of concerts in Madrid, while Maluma continues to promote his album “Loco x volver,” which was released in May.
