Sadio Mané: Souleymane Bassoum fears an agricultural “catastrophe” in Bambali

In a video published on Saturday, September 26, 2026, by Evenprod Médias, the agricultural operator argues that such a large area planted in a single zone could yield within a window of about 45 days. According to him, this concentration would create a risk of saturation for the collection, storage, and processing of mangoes. “This is a big mistake. It’s a disaster,” he asserts.

Souleymane Bassoum instead recommends staggering production across several agricultural basins. He specifically proposes 300 hectares in the Tambacounda region, 100 hectares along the Kaffrine-Kaolack axis, and 300 hectares in Bambali, in order to take advantage of different harvest schedules. This proposal reflects his technical assessment and is not accompanied, in the interview, by a publicly released feasibility study.

Launched around Sadio Mané with an announced investment of 11.7 billion FCFA, SM10 Agro aims to establish a plantation of 500 hectares, with a processing capacity of 8,500 tons per year and over 1,000 direct jobs in the long term. The initiative is set to produce fresh mangoes, puree, dried mango, and mango butter.

The official SM10 Agro website specifies that the plantation will be developed gradually and that the supply chain will include reception, sorting, preparation, processing, and logistics. However, it has not yet published the schedule by area or variety, nor the expected storage capacity during peak harvest. No public response from SM10 Agro to Souleymane Bassoum’s alert was visible at the time of publication.
