Despite the criticisms and the boos from part of the Santiago-Bernabéu crowd, the Brazilian winger, Vinicius Junior, reaffirmed his attachment to Real Madrid and his wish to leave a lasting mark in the club’s history.
The Real Madrid forward, Vinícius Junior, spoke again about the sometimes complex relationship he has with the Santiago-Bernabéu crowd, regretting being booed when his performances do not meet expectations. On several occasions in recent weeks, the Brazilian winger has endured boos from his own supporters, notably during matches where his offensive output was deemed insufficient. This situation is all the more delicate as Vinícius, long a central figure of the Madrid project, has seen his status evolve since the arrival last season of Kylian Mbappé, who has become the new darling of the Merengue public.
Tuesday night, on the European stage, the Brazilian nonetheless reminded everyone of his importance. Sparkling during Real’s wide victory over Monaco (6-0) in the Champions League, he was named man of the match after scoring a goal and providing two assists. After the match, Vinícius reaffirmed his attachment to the club and his desire to stay for the long term, as his contract is due to expire in a year. I want to stay at Real Madrid for a long time, he told TNT Sports. My renewal? I still have one year left. We are very calm. I trust the president, he trusts me. We will sort things out in due time, without rushing.
The Brazilian did not hide his sorrow in the face of the Bernabéu’s whistles. “That makes me very sad. I don’t want to be booed at home. In recent matches, I didn’t feel comfortable because at every mistake there were boos,” he admitted, before adding: “Fans have that right, they pay a very high ticket. I don’t always understand, but I am here to keep progressing.”
Determined to meet Real Madrid’s demands, Vinícius said: “I want to be remembered for all I’ve done for this club. The expectations are high and I must meet them every day. I try to give everything for this jersey and for the club that has given me so much.”
