Real Madrid: Mourinho close to returning to the Real Madrid bench
Thirteen years after his departure, José Mourinho is set to make his grand return to Real Madrid. According to the Spanish press, an agreement has been reached between the parties, while the Madrid club is about to pay SL Benfica a compensation to release the Portuguese coach from his contract.

José Mourinho is close to a sensational return to Real Madrid. According to Marca, the Portuguese coach would have found an agreement with the Madrid club to take back the reins of the first team at the end of the season. Currently at SL Benfica, Mourinho should leave the Lisbon club in the coming weeks. Real Madrid is expected to pay a compensation estimated at three million euros to buy out the last year of his contract. The former Chelsea FC, Inter Milan and Manchester United manager would himself have declined a new extension proposal made by Benfica, a sign of his desire to return to the Casa Blanca.
On the Madrid side, president Florentino Pérez has reportedly decided to bet on Mourinho’s experience after two seasons without a major trophy. Arrived in January to replace Xabi Alonso, Alvaro Arbeloa is not expected to continue the adventure beyond the last matchday of La Liga. Mourinho’s return would thus mark the beginning of a new chapter for Real Madrid, thirteen years after his departure from the Spanish club.
