Arsenal responded Friday night to the heavy charges against its former player Thomas Partey, charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) officially declared the charges earlier in the day.
According to British judicial authorities, the allegations against the 32-year-old Ghanaian midfielder are said to have occurred between 2021 and 2022. Partey is expected in court at Westminster Magistrates Court on August 5, 2025.
This announcement comes only a few days after the official end of his contract with the Gunners, which was not renewed at the end of the last season.
In a statement given to the BBC, the London club wanted to clarify its position: “The player’s contract ended on June 30. Due to ongoing legal proceedings, the club is not in a position to comment on this matter.“
Signed in 2020 from Atlético de Madrid, Thomas Partey wore the Arsenal jersey for five seasons, playing more than a hundred matches under the Gunners’ colors.
