As Real Madrid actively scans the transfer market to strengthen its midfield, a top-priority lead seems to be fading already. Courted for several months by the Madrid club, Vitinha cooled Real Madrid’s ardor by publicly expressing his attachment to Paris Saint-Germain.
In Spain, several media outlets were nonetheless discussing a very concrete interest in the 26-year-old Portuguese midfielder, considered the ideal profile to strengthen Real Madrid’s midfield. Some even went as far as to speak of a principle agreement with PSG’s management that could have opened the door to a transfer valued at between 90 and 100 million euros. The idea of a new challenge also seemed to appeal to the Spanish capital, especially since the player had just come off a successful spell with the Parisian club.
But in an interview given to the Portuguese channel Canal 11, the former FC Porto player sought to clarify his position. “It would be foolish to leave. I don’t think it’s the best for me right now.”, said the Lusitanian international, happy with his situation in the French capital.
Under contract with PSG until 2029, Vitinha says he feels fully fulfilled within the club and its dressing room. He has also closed the door on a possible departure to the Saudi league, despite very attractive financial offers. A clear message that should push Real Madrid to explore other options for its midfield.
