In a prefectural order made public on Monday, December 22, 2025, the movement of heavy trucks and oversized vehicles will be temporarily banned on three major road axes during days of high attendance.
According to measures taken by the prefect of Ouémé, Marie Akpotrossou, these restrictions will apply on Thursday, December 24 and Friday, December 25, 2025, periods during which thousands of worshippers are expected on the beaches of Sèmè-Podji for several religious pilgrimages.
This measure aims to reduce the risk of accidents, ease traffic flow and ensure the safety of road users, pilgrims and residents.
The roads affected by this ban are the routes linking Porto-Novo to the Sèmè-Podji junction, the PK8 axis (Le Bélier junction) toward the Sèmè-Podji junction, as well as the route linking the Sèmè-Podji junction to the border with Nigeria. Heavy vehicle traffic on these sections will be reinstated on the night of December 26, 2025, starting at 12:30 a.m.
Local authorities are urging drivers to comply with the rules of the road, notably by respecting speed limits and safety instructions, and call on everyone to show civic-mindedness to ensure the smooth running of the pilgrimages and preserve public order in the region.
