Al Kholood owner Ben Harburg has firmly dismissed rumours linking Mohamed Salah to the Saudi Pro League, arguing the Egyptian star would not meet the league’s demands. Questioned about the Liverpool forward’s future, Harburg said Salah “is not a team player” and that his recent stances had “revealed his true colors.” According to him, despite interest shown by several Saudi clubs, the former Chelsea player would not be a relevant reinforcement for the league.
The Saudi executive even said Vinicius Junior would be a much better fit for the SPL. “He is 33, received a huge salary a year ago, and his performances have been disappointing since. I don’t see him as a team player”, he said, reported by Football 365 and Sportskeeda.
Harburg insisted that clubs should not rely on the past when building their squads : “Here, if a player is not performing, he doesn’t play. We don’t start someone for what he did three years ago (…) Salah has charisma, and his aura in the region is immense, but I don’t think he’s cut out for our league. Between him and Vinicius, my choice is quickly made”, he added. According to several English media outlets, Mohamed Salah has played his last match with Liverpool and would no longer be part of Arne Slot’s plans for the rest of the season.
