Kenya Airways: Habil Waswani takes the helm this Tuesday

Waswani previously served as the company’s secretary general and director of legal services and regulatory compliance. He has been with Kenya Airways for over five years and brings more than twenty years of experience in business law and governance.

The board of directors has initiated a recruitment process to appoint a permanent CEO. No specific timeline for completion has been announced, but the company indicated that the process is expected to be finalized in the near term.

George Kamal had been serving as interim CEO since December 2025, after previously holding the position of chief operating officer. The company attributed his departure to personal reasons and stated that he would remain available during the transition period.

This leadership change comes as the airline continues its recovery plan, which focuses on operational reliability, network and fleet optimization, and a return to sustainable financial performance.

Waswani’s role will remain temporary while the search for a permanent leader is underway. The board announced that the recruitment process was already in motion at the time of his appointment, with his effective start date set for September 15, 2026.
