Göztepe’s Beninese attacking midfielder, Junior Olaitan, apologized to the club’s supporters after swapping his shirt with Victor Osimhen, Galatasaray’s striker, at the end of last weekend’s Turkish Super Lig match.

Having come on in the second half, Olaitan approached his Nigerian compatriot at the final whistle to swap shirts. A friendly gesture that nonetheless did not sit well with Göztepe fans, disappointed by their team’s 1-3 defeat, who criticized the player for his poor sense of timing.

Faced with the growing controversy, the Aspac-trained player spoke on social media to ease tensions: “I have a long-standing friendship with Osimhen, who, like me, is from Lagos. We saw each other again after several years and simply swapped shirts. I apologize to everyone for doing something that goes against the club’s culture.”, he wrote.
