The FC Barcelona attacking midfielder, Fermín López, has not hidden his admiration for Lionel Messi, whom he considers the ideal teammate within the Catalan club. Revealed after the departure of the Argentine legend, López dreams nonetheless of sharing the dressing room one day with the man who left Barça two years before his professional debut. In statements relayed by GOAL, the young Blaugrana even said he would readily accept a secondary role if that would allow Messi’s return to Catalonia. “If I could pick any player to sign for Barça, I would pick Leo Messi. If they put me on the bench in Messi’s favor, well, too bad!”, he said.

On a personal level, Fermín López believes he is enjoying the best season of his young career. “For now, I think this is my best year so far. I truly believe in my abilities in all aspects of the game, and I am doing my best to show my strengths on the pitch.” López explained. Aware of his role, he emphasizes his desire to be decisive: “I know I have to score goals and provide decisive assists to help the team, and I hope to contribute even more.” Lionel Messi left FC Barcelona in 2021 due to a lack of agreement on a contract extension, before joining Paris Saint-Germain and then Inter Miami in 2023.
