Himra calls on YouTube to open monetization in Côte d’Ivoire

Ivorian rapper Himra has urged YouTube to open monetization for creators based in Côte d’Ivoire, reigniting a long-standing debate on access to the YouTube Partner Program in the country on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. His statement comes as the platform still does not list Côte d’Ivoire among the eligible territories for its revenue-sharing program.

According to Linfodrome, the artist made this request in a post shared on September 16, following a recent advocacy by Tiakola for better compensation for African content. The cultural media outlet Mbote also reported on Himra’s call, highlighting the contrast with several African countries where the program is already available.

YouTube’s official list confirms that the Partner Program is available in Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, Kenya, South Africa, Uganda, and Tanzania, but not in Côte d’Ivoire. Access to the YPP is essential for revenue sharing from advertisements as well as several monetization features and support for eligible creators.

Himra’s statement is particularly significant given his current influence on the platforms. On September 16, Bénin Web TV noted his presence, either solo or in collaboration, in 23 of the top 30 spots on the Apple Music Côte d’Ivoire chart. On YouTube, several of his tracks remained among the most listened to in the country according to the latest available public data, including “PLUS DE LOVE,” “BARA BARA,” and “CANALISER.”

A claim that transcends his career

The debate extends beyond just musical artists. With Côte d’Ivoire absent from the current list of the Partner Program, videographers, comedians, influencers, and other creators based in the country cannot join the YPP from the territory under the eligibility criteria set by YouTube.

As of September 17, 2026, YouTube’s public documentation does not mention any date for the opening of the Partner Program in Côte d’Ivoire. The country remains off the official list while Ghana, Nigeria, and Senegal, three neighboring West African markets, are included.
