Gabon: 605 candidates vying to become the new national team coach
The head coach position for Gabon’s Panthers attracted 605 applicants, reflecting the growing international interest in the national team.

The Gabonese Football Federation (FEGAFOOT) recorded unprecedented enthusiasm following its call for bids for the national team head coach position. No fewer than 605 applicants, mostly Europeans, expressed interest in coaching the Panthers. This exceptional turnout is a source of pride for FEGAFOOT, which sees it as a sign of the Gabon national team’s growing international attractiveness.
The recruitment process now continues with the examination of files by the Executive Committee (Comex) and a panel of experts including the National Technical Directorate, the Association of Educators and Coaches of Gabon, and the Association of First Division Clubs. This stage, scheduled from February 4 to 10, 2026, will lead to a shortlist of three candidates before the final choice and the official appointment of the future head coach.
The Comex recalls that the future coach and his staff will need to present an ambitious and structured plan, capable of strengthening the team’s gains and lifting the Panthers among the continent’s most respected teams.
