From paintings to runways, ‘Eyes of Woman’ showcases Moroccan art
From the paintings of Fatima El Hajjaji to the silhouettes of Imane Belmkaddem, “Eyes of Woman” brings Moroccan painting to European runways. Launched in early September in Vieste, Apulia, the collection follows a journey that intertwines fashion, art, and references to Moroccan heritage, with upcoming stops announced in Romania, Kazakhstan, and then Rabat.
At the Castello Svevo in Vieste, Belmkaddem represented Morocco among international designers during Mediterranean Fashion Week, held from September 1 to 5 across several cities in Apulia. The Italian program featured over 50 brands and also highlighted craftsmanship and design.
The essence of “Eyes of Woman” lies in the dialogue between the wardrobe and the painted work. Patterns inspired by zellige, calligraphy, colors, and Moroccan symbols draw from Fatima El Hajjaji’s paintings and are reinterpreted in contemporary forms that evoke the identity, freedom, and empowerment of Moroccan women.
After Italy, the collection will head to Transylvania at the invitation of local fashion and tourism stakeholders. The dresses will interact with the Moroccan gandoura crafted using traditional techniques, in a setting that bridges contemporary creation and craftsmanship.
The project is set to continue in Astana, Kazakhstan, as part of a collaboration announced with the Kazakh Ministry of Culture. Rabat Fashion Week is presented as the return stage to Morocco following this international journey.
In Rabat, “Eyes of Woman” will be showcased alongside designers from Italy, Kazakhstan, Romania, Sweden, Germany, Botswana, and Rwanda.
