An official ceremony marking the formal handover of a rice donation from China to Togo took place on Tuesday at the Maritime Regional Directorate of the National Agency for Food Security of Togo (ANSAT) in Lomé.
The donation, consisting of 2,400 tons of white rice, is part of an emergency food assistance program aimed at strengthening food security for the Togolese population. The first shipment of this consignment arrived in Lomé on January 8.
During the event, the Chinese Ambassador to Togo, Mr. Chao Weidong, and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Togolese Abroad, Mr. Afo Salifou, officially signed the handover and receipt documents.
Mr. Chao emphasized that this initiative is a tangible outcome of the strengthened China–Togo cooperation, notably following the 2024 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). He also reaffirmed China’s commitment to building a strong and mutually beneficial partnership with Togo.
For his part, Mr. Salifou welcomed the gesture, calling it a powerful example of the vibrant cooperation between the two countries. He expressed hope that the partnership will further expand, particularly in health, investment, and infrastructure sectors.
