In office since 2021, the president of FECAFOOT, Samuel Eto’o, was re-elected for a second four-year term. Without a declared opponent, the former FC Barcelona striker was confirmed almost unanimously, winning 85 votes out of 87.

This ballot, seemingly straightforward, is actually at the heart of an institutional showdown. The Ministry of Sports had once again tried to have the general assembly annulled, arguing that the conditions were not met to hold a regular election. That position was swept aside by the Ministry of Territorial Administration, which authorized the holding of the vote, thereby dealing a stinging blow to Minsep.

A second term with immense challenges

Re-elected unsurprisingly, Eto’o nevertheless begins a term full of obstacles. Beyond the political conflicts, the national team is coming off a resounding failure: its absence from the next World Cup. A major sporting setback that places FECAFOOT with the need to rebuild and to be transparent.
