CAN 2027 Qualifiers: South Africa beats Guinea 2-1 to take early lead

The Bafana Bafana took the lead in the 30th minute through Ime Okon. After a cross into the box, the South African defender found the net at the near post, giving the home side the advantage.

Guinea attempted to respond before halftime. Serhou Guirassy notably troubled the South African defense, but South Africa went into the break with a one-goal lead.

The Syli national leveled the score in the second half. A free kick from Guirassy was cleared but fell to Seydouba Cissé, who equalized for Guinea.

South Africa regained the lead in the 77th minute. Yanela Mbuthuma set up Samukele Kabini behind the Guinean defense, and the left-back finished the move to make it 2-1.

This victory allows the Bafana Bafana to secure three points in a unique Group D. With Kenya already qualified for the final phase as a co-host of CAN 2027, only the best remaining team from the group will accompany the Harambee Stars.

South Africa will next face Eritrea on September 30. Guinea will host Kenya on October 1.
