Davido recounts his beginnings between studies and music

David Adeleke, better known as Davido, shared the challenges he faced in balancing his education and his passion for music in the documentary Afrobeats. The Nigerian artist explained that he sought advice from two major figures in the music scene, Wizkid and Wande Coal. “I asked Wizkid and Wande Coal how they left school to pursue music,” he recounted.

According to Davido, his two colleagues explained to him that musical success was the key to fully dedicating himself to his career. However, the singer knew that such a decision would be difficult to accept for his father. “ They told me that the only solution was to blow everything up. I knew my father wouldn’t allow it, but when ‘Dami Duro’ exploded, I couldn’t hold back ,” he explained. The success of this track marked a turning point in his journey. Despite his choice to prioritize music, Davido ultimately returned to his studies. He reached an agreement with his father: to go back to university while benefiting from a recording studio and his father’s permission to pursue his artistic career. This dual path allowed him to earn a degree in music from Babcock University in Nigeria in 2015.
