A man has been remanded in provisional detention by the Court for the Repression of Economic Offences and Terrorism (CRIET) after filming his naked neighbor and distributing the video on social media.
Before the CRIET, the victim is seeking 20 million CFA francs in damages for moral damages and invasion of privacy, according to judicial sources cited by Libre Express.
The incident dates from a relatively recent period in Cotonou, where the woman, whose identity has not been made public, discovered that an intimate video featuring her circulated on messaging platforms and social networks. Upon learning of it, she filed a complaint for invasion of privacy, distribution of pornographic images without consent, and violation of human dignity.
The alleged author of the video was arrested in the days that followed and placed in provisional detention at CRIET, which is handling the case. He is primarily charged with invasion of privacy, distribution of intimate content without consent, and violation of the dignity of the human person, serious offenses under the Beninese Penal Code and reinforced by cybercrime legislation.
During her appearance before the special prosecutor, the victim sought financial compensation of 20 million CFA francs, which she considers proportionate to the harm suffered, notably due to the psychological and social impact of the unauthorized dissemination of her images.
The case is now under CRIET’s investigation, where investigations are continuing to establish all responsibilities and determine the exact circumstances of the recording and dissemination of the disputed images.
