Cotonou: suspicious death of Valérie and disappearance of her child, her family demands justice
Discovered lifeless at her home in Cotonou on Saturday, August 15, 2026, young Valérie leaves behind a drama surrounded by many gray areas.

Several days after the incident, her relatives demand that all light be shed on the circumstances of her death and worry about the fate of her four-year-old son.
Welcomed by the editorial team of Madame Actu, the sister of the victim gave a poignant testimony. She was the one who found the lifeless body of the young woman. On-site, the presence of rat poison near the deceased and a table set for dinner with two place settings and two forks immediately raised suspicions about the presence of a third party at the time of or just before the tragedy.
A few days before her death, the victim had contacted her sister to confide that her child’s father was demanding to take the little boy, which she had strongly opposed.
The shadow of the father and the child’s disappearance
According to the family’s statements, the child’s father, a married man whose paternity was confirmed by DNA test after birth, had always refused to show himself publicly to protect his household.
Informed of the death of his former partner, he reportedly sent a sum of 200,000 CFA francs to the family while claiming to have the child with him.
Since then, the relatives of the deceased indicate that they are unaware of the exact location of the little boy, the identity of his guardians, or the conditions of his care.
Engaging the authorities and expectations for the investigation
In light of these concerning elements, Valérie’s sister has officially filed her testimony with the investigative services. The family raises numerous questions: what are the exact circumstances of the rat poison ingestion? What happened in the house in the hours leading up to the death? And above all, where is the child today?
At this stage, all these statements are based on testimonies from relatives and will need to be verified by the ongoing police and judicial investigations to clarify this matter.
