Manchester City didn’t flinch in their first match at the FIFA Club World Cup. Facing Wydad AC for the first day in group G, the Cityzens clinched a 2-0 victory.
Dominant against the offensively limited Moroccans, Pep Guardiola’s men cruised to victory thanks to performances from Phil Foden and Jérémy Doku. The former scored early in the game on a poorly-defended strike by Savinho, and the latter sealed the win towards the end of the first half on a corner perfectly executed by the English offensive midfielder.
With this victory, Manchester City takes the lead in group G, waiting for the other match in this group between Juventus and Al Ain tonight (2am, GMT+1). WAC is provisionally relegated to fourth place. A bad start for the Maghrebi giant who needs to snatch victory in the second round match against Juve next Sunday, to avoid an early exit from the competition taking place in the United States.
