The four teams that qualified following the UEFA Champions League knockout play-offs are now known, after the return matches played on Tuesday evening.
Atlético Madrid sealed their ticket after a spectacular win against Club Bruges. Already victorious in the first leg, the Colchoneros defeated Club Bruges 4-1 at the Wanda Metropolitano for an aggregate score of 6-3. With a hat-trick, Alexander Sørloth was the main architect of Madrid’s qualification to the round of 16.
Newcastle United, for their part, confirmed their superiority over Qarabağ FK. Beaten 3-2 in the return leg, the English had made the difference in the first leg in Baku and advance with a wide aggregate lead (9-3).
The evening’s surprise came from San Siro, where Inter Milan were knocked out by FK Bodø/Glimt. The Norwegians won 2-1 in Italy, securing a well-deserved qualification with an overall score of 5-2.
Finally, Bayer Leverkusen will also be at the round of 16, after having controlled their two-legged tie against Olympiakos FC (2-0 on aggregate).
