CANAL+ and Netflix join forces to revolutionize streaming access in Francophone Africa
CANAL+ and Netflix are strengthening their historic partnership initiated in 2019 for France and Poland by extending the strategic distribution agreement for sub-Saharan Africa.
Thanks to this agreement, CANAL+ will become the first operator to distribute Netflix as part of its offerings in 24 sub-Saharan African countries, marking a new phase in access to premium content for African subscribers.
CANAL+ et Netflix s’allient pour révolutionner l’accès au streaming en Afrique francophone
By July, CANAL+ subscribers in Francophone Africa will be able to access Netflix’s content offering via their subscription, thereby enjoying a simplified user experience.
With more than 400 live channels, including 28 produced specifically for the continent, and an enriched experience via the CANAL+ Application and the connected decoder, CANAL+ already offers an unmatched content offering.
This partnership will enrich the offering with iconic Netflix series such as Stranger Things, Money Heist, Lupin, Emily in Paris and Squid Game alongside successful African productions with international recognition such as Blood & Water, Young Famous and African, Unseen, King of Boys, Anikulapo, Blood Sisters and Kings of Joburg.
This partnership marks an important step for both groups.
This agreement, the first for Netflix in the region, will allow entertainment fans to have more choices in accessing their favorite Netflix series and movies. Netflix will do this by leveraging CANAL+’s strength and historical presence on the African continent to deploy its service. For CANAL+, this partnership is an opportunity to strengthen its position as the world’s leading content aggregator, allowing its francophone African subscribers to enjoy content from the world’s leading streaming service.
Pascale Chabert, Director of Content Acquisitions at CANAL+:
“A few years after our distribution agreement in France and Poland, I am delighted with the extension of our historic partnership with Netflix in Africa. Our millions of African subscribers will benefit from a unique offering, bringing together the best content from CANAL+ and Netflix in a single offering. This new agreement demonstrates CANAL+ Group’s ability to extend its unique model of super aggregation beyond the European continent.”
Emma Lloyd, vice president of EMEA partnerships at Netflix:
“We are thrilled with this expansion of our partnership with CANAL+ that will allow us to reach even more people in francophone African countries. This is great news for entertainment fans and it aligns with our ongoing mission to improve our members’ experience.”
