CAN 2025: with Uganda’s Shamirah Nabadda, the list of referees selected
The Confederation of African Football has published the full list of officials selected for AFCON 2025, which will be held in Morocco. One woman appears in the group: the young Ugandan Shamirah Nabadda.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the official list of referees and video assistant referees selected for the Africa Cup of Nations 2025. In total, 28 referees and 14 VAR specialists were chosen. Host country Morocco, as well as Algeria, Egypt and Mauritania, each have two central referees among the nominations.
Among the VAR officials expected in Morocco are Algerian Lahlou Benbraham, Egyptian Mahmoud Ashour, Tunisian Haythem Guirat, Moroccan Hamza El Fariq and Senegalese Djibril Camara. Notably, young Ugandan Shamirah Nabadda was also selected and will take part in the continental tournament. Another milestone for the 30-year-old, who officiated at the U-20 AFCON and the CHAN.
AFCON 2025 will take place from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026. The opening match will pit Morocco against Comoros on Sunday 21 December in Rabat.
