The Nigeria striker Akor Adams, who scored against Mozambique in the Round of 16, was allowed to leave the training camp to join his hospitalized mother, casting doubt over his availability for the quarterfinals.
The Super Eagles’ forward Akor Adams left the Nigerian camp after the emphatic 4-0 victory over Mozambique on Monday in the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 Round of 16. The information was confirmed by a statement posted on Nigeria’s official X account. The player had indeed obtained authorization from the coaching staff to go to his mother’s bedside, who is hospitalized.
“Akor Adams has received authorization to leave the camp to join his mother, who was admitted to hospital yesterday. We extend our full support to him and wish his mother a speedy recovery.”, the message states. Despite this personal ordeal, the forward started the match against the Mambas. He started and even sealed the Nigerian victory by scoring the fourth goal of the game.
The question now remains whether the Sevilla FC player will be able to rejoin the squad in time for the quarterfinal scheduled for Saturday, against the Democratic Republic of the Congo or Algeria. The two teams face each other this Tuesday at the Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat, as part of the Round of 16 of the tournament.
