A deadly attack attributed to the jihadist group Boko Haram claimed one life and left several people injured on the night of Monday, May 12, in Cameroon’s Far North region, according to local security sources.

The assault targeted the central market area of Godigong, a locality in the Mora district, within the Mayo-Sava department. The assailants reportedly struck shortly after 9 p.m., sparking panic among residents still present in the vicinity.

Preliminary reports indicate one fatality and several injuries, some of which are serious. Eyewitnesses also reported material damage, including looted shops.

This attack comes amid a resurgence of Boko Haram incursions in this border region with Nigeria, despite ongoing efforts by Cameroonian authorities to bolster security.
