CAF Champions League: Sundowns to defend title against Wiliete

Mamelodi Sundowns will kick off their title defense against Wiliete Sport Clube de Benguela in the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League 2026-2027. CAF confirmed the draw on Tuesday, September 15, with first-leg matches scheduled from October 16 to 18 and return legs from October 23 to 25.

The South African club, which received a bye in the first round, will enter directly against the Angolan representative. Wiliete secured their spot by eliminating Foresters FC from Seychelles with an aggregate score of 5-0 over two matches. Angolan international Mabululu scored three of his team’s five goals, including the only goal in the return leg, which they won 1-0 in Lubango.

Another match will see TP Mazembe face Club Africain. The Congolese side advanced by defeating Medeama with a cumulative score of 4-1, winning both matches, while the Tunisian club overcame Djoliba AC to qualify 3-2 on aggregate. The winner of this clash will progress to the group stage.

The second round will also feature APR FC-Zamalek, Al-Swehly-Espérance de Tunis, Maghreb de Fès-ASEC Mimosas, Teungueth FC-Colombe Sportive, and Rangers International-MC Alger. The Nigerian club qualified after eliminating AS Sobemap in a penalty shootout in the first round.

Pyramids FC, who won 7-1 on aggregate against Gor Mahia, will face El Merriekh Bentiu. The sixteen winners of the second preliminary round will join the group stage, which is set to kick off at the end of November.
