The Republican Police inaugurated a national call center on Friday, November 7, 2025, and launched the new toll-free number 117, completely free and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
This system aims to bring law enforcement closer to the public by offering a direct listening channel for emergency calls, reports of disturbances or nuisances, and complaints about unscrupulous officers.
Inspector General of Police Gaudens Sègbo, Central Commander of Territorial Units, urged citizens to use the line responsibly. He reminded them that 117 does not replace existing emergency numbers but serves as a modern complement to improve police response.
The launch is also part of a broader strategy to digitally transform public services and strengthen police transparency. The Police says that each call will be handled by agents trained in active listening.
