Benin: The Democrats meet Boni Yayi in Parakou on Tuesday
A delegation from the Les Démocrates party is expected this Tuesday, March 10, 2026 in Parakou to meet former president Thomas Boni Yayi. The aim is to persuade him to reverse his decision to resign as the head of the party.
The Les Démocrates party continues internal discussions after the announcement of its president, Thomas Boni Yayi’s resignation. According to officials from the political party, a delegation will travel to Parakou this Tuesday, March 10, 2026 to meet the former head of state.
This move aims to persuade him to reverse his decision. Several party officials believe that his departure could weaken the organization as the party prepares its national council soon.
Since the announcement of this resignation, the party’s bodies have intensified consultations to find a way out of the situation. The National Coordination has already expressed its refusal to endorse this departure and wishes to keep Boni Yayi at the head of the party.
The Parakou meeting could thus be a decisive milestone in the discussions underway within Les Démocrates.
