A resident of the Sainte Rita neighborhood in Cotonou had a nightmare of a night after being drugged by a woman he’d met the day before. Taking advantage of his unconscious state, the young woman and her accomplices emptied his room and made off with various valuables.
On the night of Friday, July 25, 2025, the victim, returning from work around 2 a.m., crossed paths with an attractive young woman whom he invited to his place. The next day, during a new meet-up, she led him into a trap. As he was taking her back to his place, three accomplices were discreetly following her.
Once in the room, the young woman offered her victim a drink. A few minutes after he drank it, the man fell into a deep sleep. Immediately, she called in her accomplices, who ransacked the room before disappearing with the loot.
A fortuitous arrest in Vèdoko
It wasn’t until a month later, on the evening of Monday, August 25, 2025, that the complainant recognized the same woman on the streets of Vèdoko. He confronted her, obtained her confession, and got her to name her accomplices. Alerted, investigators from the 8th arrondissement police station set a trap that led to the arrest of the rest of the gang.
All the suspects admitted their involvement and revealed that they had offloaded the stolen goods to two fences, who were also arrested. Placed in custody, they will be brought before the public prosecutor to answer charges of criminal conspiracy, theft, and receiving stolen goods.
