Another blow for the opposition party Les Démocrates. The alternate MP for the 8th electoral constituency, Chabi-Barka Bekourou Nadjibh, announced his resignation with immediate effect. In an official letter addressed to the party president, the substitute lawmaker explains his decision by citing “repeated and regrettable incidents” and an “unjustified sidelining” allegedly orchestrated by the local coordination and certain party officials.
The former substitute for MP Habib Woroucoubou describes a climate of distrust and internal rivalries. He particularly deplores the criticisms aimed at him because of his closeness to the party’s vice-president, Éric Houndété. “Since our election, my principal, MP Woroucoubou Habib, as well as Mr. Aboumon Yacoubou and the Tchaourou coordination have on several occasions expressed their disapproval of my closeness to the party’s Vice-President,” he writes in his correspondence dated November 5, 2025 and filed with the party’s administrative secretariat.
According to Chabi-Barka, this stance led to his exclusion from the candidate lists for the municipal elections, without justification or internal debate. “At the CENA, the president of the parliamentary group said he was told to tell him to fend for himself to be on the list like in 2023,” he laments.
In his resignation letter, he denounces an attack on the principles of internal democracy and mutual respect. Faced with what he describes as internal abuses, the lawmaker feels he can no longer “work calmly” within the party Les Démocrates.
Despite his resignation, Chabi-Barka Bekourou Nadjibh says he remains committed to republican values and is ready to continue “serving the Nation with respect for institutions and citizens.”
