Benin: Léon Basile Ahossi officially announces his resignation from the Les Démocrates party
The opposition party Les Démocrates is going through a new turbulent patch. The official resignation of three vice-presidents was confirmed this Thursday, December 4, 2025, by the national communications secretary, Guy Mitokpè.

The individuals concerned are Léon Basile Ahossi, third vice-president, Joël Godonou, seventh vice-president, and François Gbodo, ninth vice-president.
Joël Godonou’s departure was already known since he recently joined the presidential movement. Léon Basile Ahossi’s exit was largely predictable. The MP had for several months shown his support for the movement’s candidate, Romuald Wadagni, a stance at odds with the party’s official line.
These resignations come amid an internal crisis that followed the invalidation of the candidacy of the duo Renaud Agbodjo – Jude Lodjou, an invalidation caused by MP Michel Sodjinou’s refusal to endorse them.
This series of departures further weakens a party already facing strong tensions ahead of the 2026 general elections.
