The events took place on the night from Wednesday, December 24 to Thursday, December 25, 2025, around 10 p.m., in the Cobly district, Atacora department. Alerted by residents, the patrol from the police station was informed of the presence of individuals engaged in dismantling parts from a police patrol vehicle that was parked.
A team was immediately dispatched to the scene. As the authorities approached, the suspects fled, abandoning on the spot a CG HAOJUE motorcycle and a bag containing several wrenches, visibly used for the dismantling.
An investigation is immediately opened to identify the authors of this bold attempt aimed at a state asset. Three days later, on Saturday, December 27, 2025, around 8 p.m., a man presents himself at the Tanguiéta district police station. Claiming to be a motor vehicle driver, he comes to report the loss of his motorcycle.
Questioned, he denies any involvement in the events, while acknowledging having left his motorcycle in town on Wednesday, December 24 between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., without being able to indicate precisely the location.
To explain this memory loss, he cites an advanced state of intoxication.
A version deemed not credible by investigators. The physical evidence found at the scene of the offense and the inconsistencies in his statements led to his arrest.
The individual was placed in custody for alleged offenses of theft and complicity in the theft of components from a police vehicle.
The investigation continues to establish the exact responsibilities and identify any possible accomplices.
