Benin: Chabi Yayi expected to appear before CRIET this Friday
Chabi Yayi, secretary for external relations of the Les Démocrates party, is once again expected before the Court for the Repression of Economic Offenses and Terrorism this Friday, December 26, 2025, according to sources close to the case.

This appearance comes one week after his questioning by investigators on Thursday, December 18, when he was released and summoned.
The son of former President Boni Yayi, Chabi Yayi had been arrested and held in custody by the Judicial Police. He was released the following Monday, after the expiry of the legal period of his custody, with no formal charges publicly announced.
According to his lawyer, the proceedings are part of the investigation opened after the foiled coup attempt on December 7, 2025.
To date, the judicial authorities have not issued any official statement on the precise elements alleged against the person concerned. According to unconfirmed reports, the LD party activist was arrested because of a SIM card registered in his name that was used during the preparations for the failed coup.
Friday’s summons will likely allow the Court for the Repression of Economic Offenses and Terrorism to provide details on what is alleged against the former president’s son.
