A few weeks before the general elections scheduled for January 11, 2026, the Council for Consultation of Religious Confessions (CCCR) has presented a set of recommendations for the Beninese people.

The announcement aims to encourage peaceful and responsible participation by citizens throughout the electoral process, from the campaign to Election Day.

In a context marked by strong political mobilization, the CCCR first calls on voters to inform themselves about their rights and obligations to avoid any confusion or misunderstanding on election day.

The institution has also stressed the importance of respecting the electoral calendar, which provides for media campaigns from December 26, 2025 to January 9, 2026, as well as the review of the electoral lists.

The council urges citizens to turn out in large numbers at the polls on Election Day to freely express their choices in favor of the candidates of their preference.

It reminds that voting is a fundamental right and a civic duty that helps strengthen the legitimacy of democratic institutions.
Among the guidelines, the CCCR encourages voters to avoid any display of violence or provocation, emphasizing that the peaceful exercise of the right to vote is essential to ensuring a transparent democratic contest.

The authorities emphasize the need for participation that respects the rules and other citizens, in order to preserve social cohesion.

The CCCR has also urged candidates, political parties and their supporters to refrain from any acts that could undermine public order or the integrity of the electoral process. It reminded that Benin’s electoral law provides sanctions against anyone found guilty of irregularities or offenses during the electoral period.

Finally, the CCCR called on the population to be vigilant about misinformation. It encouraged using official channels to obtain reliable information and to avoid spreading rumors that could sow confusion.

These recommendations come as the country prepares to enter a key stage of its democratic cycle, with the simultaneous renewal of Members of Parliament and municipal councilors.

The CCCR hopes that these guidelines will contribute to a peaceful, orderly and transparent conduct of the 2026 general elections.
