Benin – Accident in Zongo: a truck crashes into a store in Cotonou
An accident with no loss of life occurred on Monday in the Zongo neighborhood, located in Cotonou’s 5th arrondissement, Littoral Department.
A “Titan” truck crashed violently into a shop, causing significant property damage.
According to initial witness accounts gathered at the scene, the truck, coming from the Étoile Rouge intersection and heading toward downtown, was traveling at a speed well above the posted urban speed limit. Losing control of the vehicle, the driver veered off course and ended up crashing into a roadside shop.
Fortunately, the occupants had left the shop moments before the impact, averting a tragedy.
The accident caused a major traffic jam, paralyzing traffic for several hours on this busy thoroughfare. Traffic only began to resume gradually after law enforcement intervened.
An investigation has been opened to determine the exact circumstances of the accident and establish responsibility.
